Double Shot Injection Molding (also called 2K molding) is a clever plastic manufacturing technique that creates single parts made from two different materials or colors – all in one automated cycle on a special machine.

Imagine a mold with two cavities. First, the machine injects the first plastic into the initial cavity to form part of the piece. Then, the mold rotates or shifts. The machine injects the second plastic directly onto or around the first part in the second cavity. The two plastics bond together as they cool.

Why is it useful? Double shot molding lets you seamlessly combine materials with different properties:

·A hard plastic base with a soft-touch rubber grip (like on toothbrushes or tools).

·Multiple colors in one part without painting (like keycaps or game controller buttons).

·Waterproof seals fused directly onto a housing.

It eliminates separate assembly steps, creates stronger bonds than gluing, improves product quality, and allows for complex, functional designs.
